The Story of Oil: A Partnership Between Art & Industry - A gallery’s permanent collection is a public legacy reflecting local, national, and sometimes international artistic developments, and is held in trust for the future. Through a series of four exhibitions we are honoured to pay tribute to the many individuals, artists, collectors, and corporations who have donated art to help build JNAAG’s outstanding permanent collection.

The first three exhibitions will explore the foundation of the collection and will include many of the community’s most familiar and beloved works. Additionally, this series will present a number of recently acquired works that have never been presented to the community until now, including work by Emily Carr, York Wilson, and AJ Casson.

Kevin Yates: House Series - Kevin Yates will discuss his practice with a special focus on the house sculptures included in the Elusive Utopia exhibition. Whether finding inspiration in a crime scene, or tracing the sense of dislocation which results from too frequent relocation, Yates’ work sets the stage for a mystery. He likens his work to film stills: objects that hold space like a “pause” allowing the viewer time to examine and inspect.
